Keep Going: How to Get Back Up

Have you ever started to pursue a goal but ended up not seeing it through?

Maybe it started off amazing—you were super excited about taking steps forward. But then one day, you messed up. That one day led to a second, and soon you found yourself stopping altogether.

Does this sound familiar?

Look, I get it. I’ve been there. Most of us have. It’s easy to feel like you’ve failed when you lose momentum, but I’m here to remind you that a setback isn’t the end of the road.

When we “mess up,” get stuck, or lose our flow, that doesn’t mean it’s over. It means we have an opportunity to reset. The truth is, life doesn’t move in a straight line. There are twists, turns, and pauses, but the important part is how we respond.

You are allowed to reset, refocus, and readjust as many times as you need to

So, how do you get back up when you’ve fallen down?

Here are a few things that have helped me reset and keep going when I’ve lost my way:

1. Acknowledge the Pause

It’s important to acknowledge when you’ve lost momentum without being hard on yourself. We’re all human, and life happens. Recognize the pause, but don’t let it define your journey.

2. Create a Small Step Forward

Sometimes the idea of “starting again” can feel overwhelming, especially if you’ve been stuck for a while. Instead of focusing on the big picture, break it down into the smallest step you can take today. Maybe that’s sending an email, doing 5 minutes of a task, or journaling to reset your mindset.

3. Use Affirmations to Keep Going

When you feel like you’ve fallen off track, affirmations can help shift your perspective. They’re reminders that you are not your setbacks and that progress is still possible. Here are a few of my favorites:

• I can reset, readjust, and refocus as many times as I need to.

• One bad day doesn’t equal a bad life.

• No matter how many times I fall down, I can get back up.

4. Celebrate Small Wins

Getting back up doesn’t have to be about giant leaps forward. Sometimes, it’s the small, consistent actions that build momentum. Celebrate those little wins, even if it’s just getting through the day with a positive mindset.
